Established in 1945, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) is a not for profit, volunteer-run organisation which aims to engage the community with literature for young Australians. The 2018 CBCA Book Week ran from 18th to 24th August 2018, with the theme “Find Your Treasure”.
On Wednesday 22nd August 2018, ‘My Place’ Family Day Care organised a 2018 Book Week Playgroup with our Educators and children.
From 9am-11.30am, the Playgroup was held at ‘Our Place’ Hall (corner of Japonica and Robinia Streets, Inala QLD 4077).
We had encouraged everyone to come dressed in their favourite characters:
We saw many princesses, pirates, fairies, superheroes, animals and more!
Even the adults worked their imagination and joined in the fun!
Our weekly Playgroup provides a great opportunity for our Coordinators, Educators and children to catch up with one another while enjoying a fun day out in the sun. Our Coordinators would set up various sensory play activities, toys and outdoor play areas for children to freely explore.
The 2018 Picture Book of the Year Winner was “A Walk in the Bush” by Gwyn Perkins.
“A Walk in the Bush is a whimsical picture book inspired by the wilderness in New South Wales by debut author and illustrator, Gwyn Perkins. Our Educational Leader Britt gathered everyone for a group reading time. We warmed up by singing and dancing to a few songs. Britt then explained the importance of Book Week, read the story and answered questions throughout the session by our group of curious little readers.
After reading time, we sent all children on a treasure hunt around the venue, following 2018 Book Week’s theme of “Find Your Treasure”!
Everyone excitedly explored around and collaborated while listening to helpful hints and instructions. A cookie pack was given as a fun reward in the end.
Arrr! Thank you to our Coordinators Guang (a cowgirl) and Britt (a pirate) for organising another great year of Book Week Playgroup. We encourage all our Educators and families to continue fostering the love of reading for children, especially from a young age.
