Our Commitment to Cultural Safety

Inala Community House (ICH) is committed to providing culturally safe services and environments for all people. This includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as well as people from diverse cultures across the world.

ICH recognises that culturally safe services must uphold the following principles:

  • Cultural respect and recognition
  • Empowering and promoting self-determination
  • Tailored services and environments
  • Shared responsibility
  • Ongoing reflection and education

ICH has a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination or racism.

ICH has a cultural safety framework that recognises that this is a shared responsibility. Every person has a role to play in keeping people safe and free from discrimination and racism.

The Cultural Safety Framework addresses three critical areas, including:

  1. Recognition, respect and engagement of individuals and communities
  2. Supportive and inclusive environments, services and systems
  3. Culturally safe and capable workforce

ICH aims to ensure that all service users:

  • Feel respected and recognised
  • Are heard and not judged
  • Feel that culture and knowledge are recognised
  • Have pride in self and in culture
  • Are accepted and empowered
