50 & Better Healthy Ageing: Men’s Pool Table Group

Are you game? Come and meet our friendly Men’s Pool Table Group participants, as well as local Coordinator Larissa Vaiomanu who always welcomes walk-ins and enquiries anytime!

Inala Community House’s 50 & Better Healthy Ageing Program: Acacia Ridge welcomes everyone to join our Men’s Pool Table Group – every Thursday 9am-1pm – at our Acacia Ridge centre (29 Chardean Street, Acacia Ridge QLD 4110).

Research from University of Copenhagen shows that playing pool or billiards is the perfect exercise that older men can enjoy while enhancing quality of life and social activity among local communities. Pool can be a suitable exercise for the elderly because the game varies between periods of activity and passivity, which means participants can continue playing for hours without feeling depleted.

“We created this Men’s Pool Table Group after identifying the rising need for more local community groups or activities – specially catered for men aged 50 and over. Our group offers the perfect opportunity for men of all backgrounds to come together, get active and enjoy an overall good time,” said Acacia Ridge 50 and Better Coordinator Larissa.

We always welcome players of all levels to join us! Whether you love playing pool or haven’t had a clue about the game, we are always here to help!

Morning Coffee and Tea with Biscuits are always available for everyone. We also plan to organise a special sausage sizzle every 2 months starting this June.

“I am retired and currently live in Coopers Plains. I have joined this Men’s Pool Table Group through positive word-of-mouth recommendations. I’ve been actively coming for six months and counting – I enjoy the overall welcoming atmosphere and the great friendships I’ve made,” said one of our active participants Don McCauley.

Don is one of our many valued 50 & Better Healthy Ageing Program: Acacia Ridge participants. Don particularly enjoys our Men’s Pool Table Group and the mixed Darts sessions. Our program would also like to thank Don for his generous donation of a brand new dartboard, as well as volunteering for general maintenance work at our Acacia Ridge centre.

“I really enjoy attending the Men’s Pool Table Group for the wonderful time and company. Some of us live nearby each other so we do carpooling. On the other hand, my wife Barbara enjoys attending Gentle Exercise and TaiChi classes every Monday at this centre too,” said Malcolm Foster.  It is common for our senior participants to attend our program activities as individuals and/or couples, providing great flexibility to pursue your own interests or bond better together.

We look forward in seeing you at the pool table! For more information, please contact us: (07) 3372 1711 | info@ich.org.au | http://www.ich.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/20170228-Acacia-Ridge-Program-Activities-Poster.pdf
