On Monday 11th September 2017, Inala Community House Community Engagement team celebrated 39 amazing years of Musical Morning Tea with our volunteers, attendees and staff.

Friends beyond years: Entertainer Terry Scott and Musical Morning Tea Coordinator/Volunteer Shirley Schneider.

A big warm welcome to our entertainer for this special occasion – Terry Scott! We are all incredibly delighted to have Terry today. Terry has been performing at our Musical Morning Tea for many years. As always, he is a crowd favourite,” said Musical Morning Tea Coordinator/Volunteer Shirley Schneider.

I was a young boy when I first came to Musical Morning Tea. This remains a special group that I hold close to my heart. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers and Inala Community House for keeping this community-focused event going,” said entertainer Terry Scott.

Besides the live music entertainment, everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet of both sweet and savoury dishes.

We have been coming here due to positive word-of-mouth recommendations and evident benefits especially for our disabled clients. Our clients enjoy attending Musical Morning Tea every Monday – routines are important to develop a sense of stability and order. Musical Morning Tea offers amazing community participation, meaningful friendships and rewarding volunteering opportunities for our clients to learn and grow . For example, one of our clients Annie with Down syndrome loves to help pack up Musical Morning Tea. We look forward to promoting independence and hopefully Annie can even come here by herself one day,” said one of our loyal attendees – a UnitingCare Community carer Sian Reid (https://uccommunity.org.au).

Hip, hip, hooray! Happy 39th anniversary of Musical Morning Tea.

A special thank you to our Musical Morning Tea volunteer Kara Bond and Inala Community House Healthy Ageing Program (Acacia Ridge) Coordinator Larissa Vaiomanu for making the birthday cake for this special occasion.

It is simply wonderful for everyone to gather and celebrate today. Our community has been blessed to have this event ongoing for 39 years and counting. We are all incredibly excited for next year’s big 4-0 celebration!” said Musical Morning Tea Coordinator/Volunteer Shirley Schneider.

It is impressive to think that for 39 years MMT has been around promoting fun activities within the community and successfully reducing social isolation within the community, especially for more vulnerable groups like our seniors and those living with disabilities. For 39 years MMT has provided a safe and welcoming environment that has seen many beautiful friendships formed over a nice hot cuppa and good music.  MMT has made it 39 years thanks to wonderful people like Shirley, Aileen and Des who make every Monday a celebration,” said Community Engagement team Manager Haley Kiata.
