Inala Community House’s 50 & Better Healthy Ageing Program: Acacia Ridge is dedicated to seniors aged 50 and over. We offer various social, recreational and educational activities to improve the overall health and wellbeing of senior members within the local community.
On Tuesday 15th November 2016, Inala Community House’s 50 & Better Healthy Ageing Program (Acacia Ridge) organised a ‘Free Council Cabs Information Session’ for our members.
During the Information Session, Anna from Brisbane City Council formally introduced Council Cabs (https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/traffic-transport/public-transport/special-taxi-services/council-cabs) – a shared taxi service at scheduled times that transports client from home to local shopping centres. Each one-way trip costs between $1 and $3.
You can use Council Cabs if you are:
- over 60 years old, or
- mobility impaired, or
- a Pensioner Concession Card or Centrelink Seniors Card holder
All Council Cabs now honour the Queensland Government Companion Card (https://www.qld.gov.au/disability/out-and-about/companion-card). You may be accompanied by a carer or a child under your care.
Find out if your suburb is serviced here: https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/traffic-transport/public-transport/special-taxi-services/council-cabs/council-cabs-service-schedule. For any enquiries or feedback about Council Cabs, please contact the Council on (07) 3403 8888 or your local Councillor (https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/about-council/governance-strategy/councillors-wards).
Besides the Council Cabs service, Anna also shared about a wide variety of Brisbane City Council programs and events available for seniors (https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/whats-on/audience/seniors-events).
The information session was then followed by a Q&A session.
“This information session was really informative and useful. Even though most of us still drive around independently, Council Cabs is a great alternative that we may need in future,” said Norma Friend, one of our many satisfied 50 & Better Acacia Ridge members.
“We are very grateful for Anna to conduct a free information session that has greatly benefited our senior members. We look forward to having more future collaborations with Brisbane City Council and other government services,” said our Program Coordinator Larissa Vaiomanu.
Anna had previously conducted information sessions at our other healthy ageing program Skylarkers as well. Transportation is a key issue for our senior members to continue enjoy independence, convenience and social interaction without relying on family and friends.
