On Friday 17th August 2018, Inala Community House Community Engagement team participated in the Global Adventures Inala festival.
From 3pm – 6pm, the free community event was held at D.J. Sherrington Park (601 Blunder Rd, Inala QLD 4077).
The annual Global Adventures Inala festival aims to showcase and celebrate the food, music, stories and cultures from our amazingly diverse Inala community. The festival is part of Queensland Multicultural Month – the state’s largest multicultural celebration – held in August every year (https://www.dlgrma.qld.gov.au/multicultural-month/about.html).
A delightful didgeridoo performance at the opening ceremony.
“Welcome everyone and we would like to pay respect to the Elders of the past, present and forever. We are proud to be celebrating all the wonderful cultures today,” said an Aboriginal guest named Steven.
“Global Adventures Inala is a fantastic event held by Inala Youth Service every year. We are all gathered here today to celebrate what makes Inala strong – the various cultures right from the First People and all the other cultural groups that have come through Inala for the last 50 years,” said Forest Lake Councillor Charles Strunk.
A lively musical performance by Durack State School students.

A big thank you to Haley and her father Afeleki Kiata for cooking chop suey – a Samoan dish honouring their cultural origin. All attendees received a free serving of chop suey at our Inala Community House information stall – yum!
“Last year we volunteered at the festival, but this year is the first time we have an information stall. This festival is a great opportunity to promote Inala’s unique cultural diversity – and what better way to celebrate with all the exciting cultural foods and activities?” said our Community Engagement Manager Haley Kiata.
