50 & Better Healthy Ageing Programs: Staying Physically and Socially Healthy in 2018

Inala Community House welcomes you to join our 50 & Better Healthy Ageing Programs based at Acacia Ridge (29 Chardean Street) and Skylarkers (20 Skylark Street, Inala). Our mission is to help our Queensland seniors to stay physically, socially and mentally healthy through various ‘fun-tastic’ activities that can be catered to your individual lifestyle needs and interests.

One of our popular program activities is ‘Gentle Exercise’ – available at both our Acacia Ridge and Skylarkers centres!

As we get older, it becomes more important than ever to get physically active on a regular basis. A great way to easily establish a healthy routine is by joining any of our ‘Gentle Exercise’ classes – suited for all levels especially beginners.

So don’t be shy – come on down to meet new friends and have fun at the same time – exercise doesn’t need to be boring or lonely!

Our ‘Gentle Exercise’ class runs for an hour led by one of our friendly trainers who are accredited experts in meeting senior’s fitness needs. We usually start with a warm up, followed by a fun mix of light strength and mobility exercises, and a cool-down stretching session. A chair is provided for each participant to exercise in and rest at any time. We also encourage you to follow and do at your own pace.

Depending on everyone’s mood, we occasionally finish off with a mini dance party!

Meet Lorrae Madge – one of our amazing ‘Gentle Exercise’ instructors.

Lorrae is a qualified personal trainer and the operator of ‘All About Attitude Fitness and Training’. (https://www.facebook.com/allaboutattitudefitnessandtraining)

We love Lorrae who has a great sense of humour and a positive can-do attitude to keep everyone motivated and entertained throughout every class.

I have successfully lost a lot of weight and am fitter and happier than before. Now I want to help others to achieve the same. I love teaching group fitness classes. I am an older woman and I know the best ways to help others especially in their later years to get right back into fitness,” said Lorrae.

“I have been attending ‘Gentle Exercise’ classes since last year. It is good and the only exercise I am getting these days. I also enjoy attending Acacia Ridge centre for other senior-friendly activities like ‘Indoor Bowls’ and ‘Card-Playing’. Just come have a great time and meet like-minded friends,” said one of our loyal participants – 88-year-old Mary. Mary lives alone and comes to our centre by taxi as she has recently stopped driving. Never let age stop you from staying active and having fun!
