Inala Community House: Women’s Financial Independence Networking Day

On Wednesday 6th March 2019, Inala Community House (ICH) proudly hosted a Financial Independence Networking Day (FIND) for our community, in celebration of Queensland Women’s Week (2-10 March 2019).

Queensland Women’s Week recognises and celebrates the achievements of Queensland’s women and girls. This year’s theme “Invest in Women, Invest in Future” focuses on improving female financial literacy and security, which has benefits for the entire community.

From 10am to 2pm, our FIND event welcomed women of all ages and backgrounds to join us at ‘Our Place’ Hall (corner of Japonica and Robinia Streets, Inala QLD 4077). Our main aim was to educate and empower female financial independence, especially for vulnerable groups.

The FIND event was also a meaningful collaboration between women from different ICH services.

Here we have Guang from ‘My Place’ Family Day Care service offering free face-painting for all children attending the event. Halle Simpson is a little girl enrolled in our service!

Free refreshments like various cut-up fruits, biscuits and desserts were available for all attendees. Coffee and tea were supplied too.

Good morning and welcome everyone to Inala Community House’s Financial Independence Networking Day in celebration of Queensland Women’s Week. A big thank you to all our stallholders present today to offer various financial services and tips. We hope all our female participants learn something new and useful today and please enjoy yourselves,” said ICH Community Engagement Manager Haley Kiata in the opening speech.

Let’s get “Super” excited: A big thank you to HESTA and AustralianSuper for their financial presentations starting at 11am.

The sessions were also highly interactive as participants got to freely ask questions and create new topics of discussion specifically catered to women’s needs.

Mark from QSuper and Diane from Christians Against Poverty

Thank you to all our stallholders for generously giving away free financial information, resources and freebies to all our female participants. For example, a female participant received a goodie bag for correctly answering the current Superannuation Guarantee rate – it’s 9.5%!

Our final speaker of the day was Kaylee from Centrelink.

She provided various great tips for women on “Managing Your Money”:

  • Create a budget
  • Track your spending
  • Pay off your debts
  • Other types of credit
  • Start a savings plan
  • Build your super
  • Take charge of your home loan
  • Protect the important things
  • Get help if you need it

Free lunch was served at 12pm.

We had various fresh salads, bread rolls, baked potatoes, roasted chicken and more.

Lunch provided a great opportunity for all women to mingle and exchange their stories and learnings from the day. Cakes were later served as desserts.

Thank you to one of our stallholders Red Diamond for hosting a prize giveaway for our participants.

Two lucky winners received chocolate boxes, while one received the main prize containing a $220 voucher for financial services! Congratulations to the happy winners.

Inala Community House also held an exciting lucky draw giveaway for two $50 gift cards.
