Welcome to our Healthy Ageing Program (Acacia Ridge).

On Thursday 8th February 2018, Inala Community House Healthy Ageing Program (Acacia Ridge) organised a 2018 Welcome BBQ Session to usher in the new year with our beloved new and existing senior members.

The Welcome BBQ Session marked our first social event of the year. For many it is also their first day back at our centre – welcome back!

From 11.30am-1pm, everyone had the lovely opportunity to catch up, exchange holiday stories and chat about the new year. Everyone was mostly excited about checking out and signing up for upcoming new 2018 activities in our centre.

After a short break over Christmas and New Year, all our programs are now back up and running. We are super excited about the upcoming months with many great plans in store for our valued members. We are happy to welcome everyone today and this event is a great warm-up for a fantastic year ahead,” said our Healthy Ageing Program (Acacia Ridge) Coordinator Larissa Vaiomanu.

Meet Chernoh Bah (right) – our social work student who is passionately serving in various Inala Community House services. Chernoh looks forward to graduating from QUT this June, and working full-time in community development.

Thank you Chernoh for grilling up a hot meal for our members. Our meat and vegetable kebab sticks were a big hit!

Many years ago, I used to come to Acacia Ridge centre for Indoor Bowls, Snooker and more – until I can’t due to my physical medical condition. Recently I decided to give it a try again and am happy to be back here attending activities again. It is great for me to get out of the house and stay socially active. I love playing the piano and hopefully, I can do some of that here too,” said our old but new again member Maria Nixon. Maria lives just a few streets away from our Acacia Ridge centre. Great to have you back Maria!

Besides brainstorming and planning activities that our seniors may like, we always welcome members’ feedback and new ideas. Our members would like to see greater numbers and variety of activities. For example, one of our member’s husband feels isolated but he enjoys fishing – so we are now trying to gather interest and set up a social fishing club hopefully!” said Healthy Ageing Program (Acacia Ridge) Coordinator Larissa Vaiomanu.

Today was a wonderful event to kick start 2018 with all our members. Thank you to our staff for working hard as usual to keep all members happy and well-fed. We look forward to a productive and engaging year,” said our Community Engagement Manager Haley Kiata.
