On Tuesday 26th November 2019, Inala Community House Community Engagement team helped organise World AIDS Day Community BBQ to raise community awareness about HIV and AIDS.
The national World AIDS Day theme for Australia in 2019 is Every Journey Counts. World AIDS Day aims to encourage Australians to educate themselves and others about HIV; to take action to reduce the transmission of HIV by promoting prevention strategies; and to ensure that people living with HIV can participate fully in the life of the community, free from stigma and discrimination.

From 9am-11am, we welcomed everyone to the free event held at Inala Alcohol and Drug Service carpark (64 Wirraway Parade, Inala). Similar events will be held in other suburbs including Acacia Ridge, Logan Central and Bayside.
Our Community Engagement Manager Haley Kiata and Coordinator Leah Nguyen.
Together, we helped serve many free delicious breakfast burritos, healthy snacks and refreshing teas to everyone on this hot day.
We also encouraged visitors to take a quick quiz to educate themselves about HIV and AIDS.
Thank you Kombi Clinic for providing free on-site blood tests and medical advice.
Thank you Hepatitis Queensland for providing free one-on-one health information sessions to everyone.
“World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year. Today’s community event is a valuable collaboration between different services and we’re glad to see such a great turnout,” Natalie Davis from Metro South Health (most left) said.
Don’t forget to get tested, get educated and wear a red ribbon to show your support for people with HIV on World AIDS Day.
