“Man is most nearly himself when he achieves the seriousness of a child at play.” – Herodotus, Greek historian
With the end of June-July Queensland school holidays, ‘My Place’ Family Day Care is excited to resume our weekly Playgroups again! Hooray!
Playgroups are informal, relaxed and fun weekly social gatherings that promote great benefits for both children and adults. Playgroups provide Educators valuable opportunities to develop friendships, share knowledge, seek advice and gain support from our community.
“Children can enjoy play-based learning while gaining social skills with other children. Our Educators can venture out of the house and socialise with other Educators and our supportive Coordination Unit,” said ‘My Place’ Family Day Care Coordinator Jodie Rowsell.
‘My Place’ Family Day Care Playgroups start on the first Friday of every month and then Wednesdays for the remaining month. Running from 9-11am, our weekly Playgroups are held at the gorgeous play area of ‘Our Place’ Hall (corner Japonica and Robinia Streets, Inala).
We welcome all our Educators, Children and Families to join us in this weekly affair of fresh air and sunshine, play and endless laughter!
Our Playgroups offer a wide range of toys and resources which expands the usual everyday choices of our Family Day Care Educators and Children. We set up an obstacle course to train children’s motor skills.
We also brainstorm and organise a different special activity every week to keep things interesting:
For example, this week the children had fun doing ‘Leaf Collage’ using leaves, glue, paper and paint. It was a great opportunity to incorporate nature into children craft projects.

“Aleyah was very busy at Playgroup today. Thank you Jodie for a great storytelling session too. As a ‘My Place’ Family Day Care Educator, I really enjoy and appreciate weekly Playgroups along with my children in care. The larger setting of Playgroup offers a different social experience from the usual smaller groups of Family Day Care. This way, we get to enjoy the best of both worlds,” said Leanne.
