“You can find magic wherever you look.

Sit back and relax.

All you need is a book.” – Dr. Seuss

On Friday 18th August 2017, ‘My Place’ Family Day Care was excited to organise a Book Week special playgroup, celebrating this year’s theme “Escape to Everywhere”.

Established in 1945, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) is a not-for-profit, volunteer run organisation which aims to engage the community with literature for young Australians.

2017 Book Week is held from 19-26 August. Each year across Australia, The CBCA brings children and books together celebrating CBCA Children’s Book Week. During this time schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children’s literature. (https://cbca.org.au/cbca-childrens-book-week)

Arrrrr, Ahoy Matey!

For this special playgroup, we encouraged our Children and Educators to come dressed in their favourite book characters. Dress-up play can stimulate so many creative and imaginative developmental skills which help make them a well-rounded and successful adult.

“Even though play is often underestimated, children develop ideas about the world around them when they engage in dramatic dress-up play.”

Can you guess which book characters our Coordinators got dressed up as?

There are red sheep and blue sheep, wind sheep and wave sheep, scared sheep and brave sheep, but where is the green sheep?

Answer: “Where is the Green Sheep” by Judy Horacek!

The Children later enjoyed an immersive storytelling session of the book as well.

At playgroup, we encourage all Children to freely explore and bond with one another. Popular toys like musical instruments and art-painting provide great sensory play experience. For this week’s Book Week playgroup, we have a special book corner and a list of recommended books for our Children (https://cbca.org.au/shortlist-2017),” said ‘My Place’ Family Day Care Educational Leader Britt Quince.
