On Wednesday 21st August 2019, Inala Community House Healthy Ageing Programs (both Acacia Ridge and SkyLarkers) celebrated Seniors Week with our community.
Queensland Seniors Week (17-25 August 2019) provides opportunities to promote positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing, facilitate community participation, and enhance community connections – aligning with the Queensland Government’s and Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland’s vision of building age-friendly communities in Queensland.
From 11am, the all-free celebration was held at ‘Our Place’ Hall (corner of Japonica and Robinia Streets, Inala). Bus pick-up service was available via booking.
“Welcome everyone. It is fabulous to see so many community members dressing up for today’s special occasion. Thank you COTA Queensland for funding today’s free event – it is a day to celebrate our seniors and their wonderful contribution to the society. Thank you to all Community Engagement staff for your hard work in pulling off this event,” our Community Engagement Manager Haley Kiata said.
Thank you Blue Fin Fishing Club for donating the lucky door prize – a $50 dining voucher! Next up we had a Best Hat competition – it was tough deciding the winners – congratulations Don and Jessie! Thank you everyone for showing us your best hats!
Finally, congratulations to Mary, Suzy and Esther for winning the raffle prizes consisting gift cards.
Thank you Pete Booth for being the entertainment of the day. Everyone greatly enjoyed the comedy magician show.
Our Chief Operating Officer Josh Cullen joined in the fun as the show’s assistant.
The dessert grazing table was wonderfully set up. Thank you Thu for donating her food art.
We served a delicious roast lunch for all.
