Our mission is to help our Queensland seniors to stay physically, socially and mentally healthy through various ‘fun-tastic’ activities that can be catered to your individual lifestyle needs and interests. Join us today!

On Tuesday 6th March 2018, Inala Community House Healthy Ageing Program (Acacia Ridge) organised a free “Online Safety and Security Workshop” open to all local senior members.

This free workshop effectively came as a response to one of our senior members’ request. The member was not confident but eager to explore the online world. We always encourage our senior members to keep up with the latest technology, but at the same time, it is important to stay safe. We have many senior members who are actively online, so we thought this free workshop would greatly benefit many on a day-to-day basis,” said our Healthy Ageing Program (Acacia Ridge) Coordinator Larissa Vaiomanu.

We sincerely thank Brisbane City Council’s Sunnybank Hills Library and staff Amanda for investing their time in visiting our Acacia Ridge centre and empowering our seniors with the knowledge of how to stay safe online.

Brisbane City Council has various ongoing library outreach services like today’s free workshop that is specially tailored to our local seniors’ needs. Online security is a popular topic. We actually conducted a similar workshop at Inala Community House Healthy Ageing Program (Acacia Ridge) a few years ago, and we are more than happy to be back again meeting both old and new faces,” said Brisbane City Council’s Sunnybank Hills Library staff Amanda.

Held from 11.30am-1pm, the free and informative session was enjoyed by all in attendance. Topics included how to better protect ourselves against viruses and malware, pay safely online and create strong passwords. Our members felt more confident and safer to go online now after learning the basics of secure internet use.

Everyone had the opportunity to ask questions and practice real-life scenarios under professional guidance. We also handed out useful information sheets and a lovely morning tea was served.
