Educator’s guide for new parents

Family Day Care is an approved education and care service, delivered at the comfort of individual Family Day Care educators’ homes. Each home is personalised, safe and educational.

Family Day Care allows great flexibility for hours and fees to suit your family’s needs. My Place Family Day Care offers care during standard hours, before/after school, school holidays, overnight and even weekends. Transport options between kindergarten/school/home are also available.

Family Day Care permits only up to 7 children under care at any time. Delivered in a unique small-group setting, your child will receive more personalised care and attention, and more importantly, help them form strong, secure relationships to support social learning.

All our Family Day Care Educators are qualified professionals, trained to implement the Early Years Learning Framework for early childhood play-based learning, and My Time, Our Place Framework for school-aged child enrichment.

Our educator is fully qualified and holds a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, as well as current first aid, CPR, anaphylaxis, and asthma management training. They regularly participate in professional development to ensure they stay updated with the latest practices and standards.

We follow strict safety protocols. The educator conducts daily safety checks of the environment, and all toys and equipment meet Australian safety standards. Fire and emergency evacuation drills are regularly practiced, and our premises are child-proofed for safe indoor and outdoor play.

We focus on positive behaviour guidance strategies. The educator uses techniques like redirection, offering choices, and setting clear expectations. The goal is to promote self-regulation, empathy, and cooperation in a nurturing environment. No form of punishment is used.

Our curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), which emphasizes “learning through play.” It focuses on outcomes such as children’s identity, communication, and wellbeing. Activities are planned based on the child’s interests and developmental needs, fostering their growth holistically.

With a small educator-to-child ratio, every child receives personalized care and attention. The educator develops a close relationship with each child, observing their individual needs and interests. Activities are tailored to cater to your child’s unique development

For the health and safety of all children, we ask that children who are unwell stay home until they are fully recovered. If your child becomes ill during care, you will be contacted immediately. We follow strict hygiene practices, including regular handwashing and sanitizing of toys and surfaces.

We maintain open communication with parents. You will receive daily updates on your child’s activities, meals, and rest times via a communication app or notebook. The educator is available for regular check-ins to discuss your child’s progress, and you are welcome to contact us anytime with questions or concerns

We provide healthy, nutritious meals and snacks that cater to all dietary needs. Our meals are prepared in line with Australian dietary guidelines, and we encourage healthy eating habits. If your child has any food allergies or preferences, please inform us, and we will accommodate them.

We celebrate and respect the diverse backgrounds of all families. Cultural awareness activities are embedded in our program, such as celebrating various cultural events and integrating books, music, and food from different cultures. We encourage families to share their traditions and celebrations with us.

Our educator is trained to respond quickly to medical emergencies, including allergic reactions. They have current first aid training, and an emergency plan is in place for every child with known allergies or medical conditions. Medications such as EpiPens or inhalers are stored safely and administered as required.

We believe that every child’s emotional wellbeing is key to their overall development. The educator provides a warm, responsive, and supportive environment where your child feels safe to express their feelings. We teach children emotional literacy and resilience through storytelling, play, and reflective conversations.

Our routine is designed to provide a balance of structured and free-play activities. It includes time for group learning, outdoor play, meals, naps, and individual quiet time. The routine is flexible to accommodate the needs of the children, allowing for spontaneous play and learning opportunities.

We incorporate school-readiness activities into our daily routine, focusing on skills like listening, following instructions, early literacy and numeracy, and social interactions. Our goal is to help children develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive in a school environment.

We understand that starting a new care environment can be overwhelming. We work closely with parents to ensure a smooth transition by offering a gradual settling-in process. The educator will create a welcoming and comforting environment for your child, and you are welcome to stay during the early days

We limit screen time and ensure that when used, it’s for educational purposes, such as interactive learning tools or educational videos. The focus at My Place Family Day Care is on active, play-based learning, social interaction, and hands-on activities.

My Place Family Day Care is approved by the Queensland Government Office for Early Childhood Education and Care, as well as by Australian Government Department of Education.
